My Squadron of 800 (three armored companies, three helicopter companies, and a headquarters company) lost three guys killed and a few others wounded during a sixteen month deployment. I was a replacement and was only there for the last ten months. We went on bullshit "missions" every day and night (even I went on well over a hundred), and cycled through tower guard rotations every few weeks. Every spare hour was spent fixing broken tanks or cleaning barracks/equipment/self. Most of us did our best, some of us brutalized or terrorized people, a lot of innocent people got in the way somehow or other and some of them got killed, sometimes we were cruel or just ignorant and caused unnecessary deaths, often humanity prevailed but often people became animals. In the end we had no reason or right to be there, we failed to accomplish anything positive, and the people naturally turned on us.
