Michael Philbin
Enlisted in the United States Army in 2006 as a 19D Cavalry Scout. Was assigned to Sabre Squadron, 3d Armored Cavalry Regiment based out of Fort Hood, TX and deployed to Diyala Province in Iraq from November 2007 to January 2009. During deployment, received Combat-Action Badge and Army Commendation Medal. When unit returned to Fort Hood was eventually promoted to E-5 Sergeant. Was honorably discharged a year later in 2010. After enlistment, I lived in Austin, TX for 2 years before moving back to Pawtucket, RI. Done work as a Security Guard for companies based out of both Austin and Providence. Attended classes at both Central-Texas Community College and RI College-Providence, concentrating mostly on Political Science but I haven't received my degree. I'm beyond ready to become politically active and do all that is required to end the insanity of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. It wasn't just one person or act that brought this country into an era of constant global violence. It is the perpetuation of a corrupt system. I'm joining IVAW because you were right. You were always right, from the very beginning. Our fellow citizens must also realize the terrible reality of these conflicts as a necessary step towards achieving true peace and advancing the cause of a just society.
