Letter from the Secretary

Board

Dear Members,

With every convention, we mark a sort of “new year” for IVAW. We have virtually a brand new board, a new executive committee, and a new Board Chair.

The 2012-2013 Board of Directors is as follows:

Geoff Millard – Chair

Bryan Reinholdt - Co-Chair

Sara Beining – Secretary

Todd Dennis - Treasurer

Wendy Barranco – Director

Vince Emanuele – Director

Recently we passed an amendment to create an Ally Director position on the Board. The Amendment language and discussion post for questions is located here on the IVAW website. The Ally Director position is as of yet unfilled; however, suggestions or interest can be expressed to board@ivaw.org with the subject of “Ally Director.”

We hope to have a new executive director soon. For those of you reading this who haven’t read our current E.D.’s blog posting regarding his resignation, you can check it on here on the IVAW website. The Board is diligently working to evaluate who might best fill Jose’s shoes both in the interim and long term, and as we work through this process, rest assured, we will be sending out periodic emails with specific updates. Any questions, comments, and concerns regarding that can be sent to board@ivaw.org with the subject “Executive Director”.

One other big issue the Board is currently working through is determining whether we can move our fiscal year to begin in May, so that whenever a new Board comes on in late summer, they are not faced with the pressure of immediately having to pass a budget. We will be sure to keep the membership posted on this process. Thanks to everyone who participated in voting, we on the Board are constantly striving to be the types of leaders that can help IVAW succeed long-term in our goals, and we welcome your constant comments, criticisms, and general feedback.

In peace and solidarity,

Sara Beining and the 2012-13 IVAW Board of Directors

What's wrong with a flip-floppity dovish senator that knows some foreign policy?

That Commie Pinko, Hanoi John, Worthless Expletive, Jane Fonda wannabe, five-term Senator foreign policy buff John Kerry, as Secretary of State? Where’s that petition to renounce my citizenship? Wait. Wait, wait, and wait...

Executive Director Job Posting/Position Description

As you may have heard in recent communications, our Executive Director, Jose Vasquez, has resigned his position with IVAW. Of course, the Board thanks Jose for his dedication and years of service to IVAW, and has a seat...

Premeditated

For an act to be premeditated it has to be planned. In the United States we hear about premeditated murder and in some states this has been defined as mere seconds before the criminal act. Our reasoning for going to war with...

The War in Iraq is Not Over

Recently the media has been filled with announcements that the war in Iraq has finally ended.  But in a war fought not only by enlisted foot soldiers, but also largely by corporations, mercenaries, and drones, what...
