Here's a great opportunity to support the work of organizations like IVAW who are working for grassroots change in their communities.  The Coalition of Immokalee Workers has a 10 year history of fighting for low wage worker's rights and are about to celebrate a major victory!  I plan to attend and support and I hope others in the region can do the same.

Northeast Fair Food allies, mark your calendars...

Northeast Encuentro set to meet in New York City, Feb. 4-6; Allies from across the region will gather to celebrate recent victories in Campaign for Fair Food, strategize for Boston Ahold action in February!

As organizing ramps up across the country for the big Spring Supermarket Action, Fair Food allies in the Northeast are getting ready for a major regional meeting to coordinate mobilization efforts around the February 27th action in Boston targeting Ahold (owner of the Giant and Stop & Shop supermarket chains). Here below are the details for the Northeast Encuentro, just one month away!:

 

NORTHEAST ENCUENTRO February 4th-6th New York City Hosted by Community/Farmworker Alliance NYC

Event Details:

Friday, February 4th at 8:00pm Coalition of Immokalee Workers Victory Party! Come Dance and Celebrate!

The NYC Community Farmworker Alliance (CFA) is throwing a party to celebrate the recent victories of the Coalition of Immokalee Workers. Come dance and celebrate! Live Bomba music by BombaYo, DJs spinning hip-hop, cumbia, salsa and son jarocho! $5-$10 at the door to raise money for CFA's efforts to support the CIW. Accepting donations for tamales and drinks! Party to beheld at 388 Atlantic Avenue at the Commons (thecommonsbrooklyn.org) at 8pm on Friday, February 4th

Saturday, February 5th at 9:00am Northeast Regional Encuentro

Coalition of Immokalee Worker allies-represented by Student/Farmworker Alliance chapters, local Fair Food Groups, and Community/Farmworker Alliances-from all over the Northeast will gather for skill-shares, workshops, and strategy sessions around the Campaign for Fair Food. All workshops will be held at El Museo Del Barrio.

Saturday, February 5th at 7:00pm Dinner, Films, and Presentations on Organizing in New York City

Come to the Rebel Diaz Arts Collective community space and cultural center for a delicious dinner, and to learn about organizing happening in New York City.

Sunday, February 6th at 9:00am Action Preparation

Arrive here for breakfast, and to make banners, posters, and prepare chants for the action. Interactive workshop on how to make your actions fun, memorable, and inspirational. We will then head to the Union Square Trader Joe's, where we will meet up with allies from all over New York City and march together.

12pm-2pm March from Union Square Trader Joe's to Chelsea Trader Joe's
