Women War and Peace
A part of the Windows and Mirrors: Reflections on Afghanistan Exhibit, this panel will feature 4 speakers: Sawsan Al Obaidi: Sawsan is an Iraqi refugee who arrived in the US about 2 years ago. She and her family spent a number of years in Syria before coming to the States. Sawson will be speaking about her experience in raising a young child during war and during crippling sanctions. Joyce Wagner is a US veteran who served in Iraq as a U.S. Marine from 2002-2008. She recently received a grant from the Sprout Fund for the War Dialogues project which is part of the Windows and Mirrors exhibit. Joyce is the Chair of the Board of Iraq Veterans Against the War. Iris Kaminski was educated in Israel and served in the Israeli Army, in the Air Force intelligence for two years. Iris has lived in Israel through several wars, the first and second Intifada and in the last decade has been involved in peace related activities Mary Dean, Co-coordinator of Voices for Creative Nonviolence. She has traveled with several delegations to war zones including Central America and Palestine as well as to Iran with the Fellowship of Reconciliation. She led two delegations to Afghanistan this past year, spending seven weeks there. The evening will conclude with an improvisational performance by Pittsburgh Playback Theatre and a chance for the audience to reflect on theexhibit and the stories through the creativity of Playback actors.
