Veterans Day: Recognizing the sacrifices of women service members and veterans

Women service members are disproportionately abused and neglected by their command and disproportionately affected by military traumas, sexual assualt, harrassment, and sexism. Moreover they are subjected to scrutiny above and beyond their male counterparts; yet still they thrive, overcoming these obstacles to become powerful leaders in the movement for service members' rights.

For too long women service members and veterans have gone unrecognized for their sacrifices and hardships in the military. IVAW is fighting to change this situation by highlighting women's experiences in the military and demanding that General Campbell improve conditions for women and all service members at Fort Hood. 

General Campbell was put on watch for the abuse of service members' right to heal this past Memorial Day after numerous failed attempts to meet with him to discuss the mental health epidemic at Fort Hood. With General Campbell on watch, the Operation Recovery Team took to the blacktop to reach out directly to the most effected soldiers about their right to heal.  Over the past six months, the Operation Recovery Team at Fort Hood has met with hundreds of service members and their families to collect their personal stories and share resources. From this work it has become clear that women service members are disproportionately being affected by the abuse of service members' right to heal. 

Take a stand at one of the events or organize your own event to show your solidarity. Learn about the experience of women in the military, and make demands of General Campbell. 

We will expose the injustices done against women service members and all service members, including violations of their right to heal. 

We will confront issues politicians and military officers, like General Campbell, refuse to address: Military Sexual Trauma, Post Traumatic Stress, Traumatic Brain Injury, patriarchy, discrimination, sexual assualt, limited access to care, and a suicide epidemic amongst veterans and servce members.

We will demand a response.
