Here's all the information you need, in one place:

October 7th, 2011 will mark 10 years since the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan and the start of the Global War on Terror. IVAW, together with Afghans for Peace, Military Families Speak Out, Veterans For Peace, VVAW, United for Peace and Justice, the War Resisters League, and the Civilian-Soldier Alliance, has led up to this sad anniversary with the Decade of War Awareness Month. DOWAM featured a public education-style curriculm, used at a number of community-led events nationwide. More information is available at WarVoices.org.

The month will culminate tomorrow in Washington DC. First, at 1:45pm United for Peace and Justice will hold a press conference at the entrance to the Martin Luther King, Jr. memorial, featuring IVAW members, veterans, and anti-war activists. Participamts will remember the immortal words of Dr. King and encourage the nation to embark once again on King's path of non-violence. Speakers will be available for interview after the conference.

In the evening, a unique 'War Voices' forum will bring together community and national organizers to reinvigorate public discussion about the implications of a decade of war at home and abroad. Speakers include: Afghanistan Veterans Against the War co-founder Brock McIntosh; Fatima Mojadiddy and Suraia Sahar of Afghans for Peace; Institute for Policy Studies Fellow Phyllis Bennis; Chris Hellman of the National Priorities Project; Poverty Initiative Scholar Willie Baptist; and Attorney Ashraf Nubani, acting director of the National Coalition to Protect Civil Freedoms.

The event takes place on Friday, October 7, 6:00pm at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, 1830 Connecticut Ave. NW. It's free and open to the public. It will also be livestreamed at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/war-voices. Audience participation is encouraged! Please feel free to send your questions and comments vie Twitter (@WarVoices) or facebook
