Artist Statement Below
"I'm a modern fusion belly dancer, producer, instructor, and activist. I share my dance out of altruism and empathy for those who have lost their most precious asset, their health and happiness, due to deep wounds endured while in service to our nation. The abuse of so many soldiers who are redeployed without proper treatment compels me to action. The impact of deploying psychologically and physically injured soldiers on human lives, both here and abroad, is widespread and devastating. A traumatized soldier brought back to the source of original trauma can not properly perform their already demanding duties. This endangers others, from Afghani civilians, to fellow soldiers, to our society as a whole. Our government's policy of putting traumatized soldiers back into harm's way is cruel, irresponsible, and disgraceful. I hope to draw attention to this problem and raise much needed funds for the good people of IVAW to continue Operation Recovery."
