Scott was born in Maryland and spent the majority of his youth in New Jersey. He enlisted in the Army as an infantryman in 2003 and in 2005 he deployed to Iraq with the 101st Airborne Division. During his time in Iraq, he witnessed human rights abuses which turned his opinion against the war. In 2008 the Army attempted to recall him from the IRR but he chose to resist redeployment. He joined Iraq Veterans Against the war in 2010 and has been an organizer for Operation Recovery. Scott lives in Urbana Illinois and works as a union organizer.
