Margaret was in a club last year and met a military recruiter who was recruiting 18 year old females. As a member of the New Jersey National Guard, Stevens served as a medic and was activated after 9/11. Stevens' female comrades realized that war was on the horizon and started to get pregnant in order not to deploy.

A good friend of Stevens was raped, but there was no evidence to prove it. She was not believed, and she was treated like a criminal. Suzanne Swift, another IVAW member, chose to speak out about being raped in Iraq, and the military did all they could to shut her up. If the military had taken her seriously in the first place, it never would have gone to that, however.
