Funding the War is Killing the Troops
by Garett Reppenhagen | Tue, 07/17/2007 - 7:17pm
The debate continues throughout the country on how to support the troops. One of the main points I hear by the misguided many is that we need to fund this debacle to ensure the service members deployed to Iraq have the proper equipment that their lives depend on. In reality the longer we keep handing blank checks to the Bush administration the longer this conflict is allowed to continue, and the more troops die and become injured. Funding the war is killing the troops. Over 600 US forces have died in Iraq in the line of duty since the Democrats took power. The country voted last November for candidates they felt would bring a swift end to America's participation in the Iraq conflict. No here we are months later discussing whether or not the "troop surge" is successful or not. Iraq is less safe for the average Iraqi, stability is non-existent, and US soldiers and Marines are dying daily caught in the middle of the escalating chaos. We voted as a nation to end this war last fall, and we have yet to see any results that appears like we are moving in that direction. Our elected leaders fail to represent the will of the American people. The voice of the majority has to get louder and the message needs to be clear, if congress continues to vote to fund this war, then they are voting themselves right out of office come next election. If you wish to join the voices of other Americans that oppose the continued conflict in Iraq check out IVAW DC chapters campaign to deliver miniature paper tri-folded funeral flags to the new Democrat leaders.
