Dan joined the Marines straight out of high school in the summer of 2000, a time when few armed conflicts were underway that would necessitate a serviceman leaving the states. Before being discharged 5 years later, though, he deployed to Kuwait for 8 months in 2003 and to Iraq for 7 months in 2004.
