Cameron White is a Minnesota native who completed two tours in Iraq. As a Marine, he served as a tank mechanic with the 1st Tank Battalion during the invasion of Iraq. On his second tour, he was a Humvee driver attached to the 1st Marine Division to transport troops from Kuwait to Fallujah. Disillusioned by what was so clearly an illegal war, he became actively involved in the Peace Movement while still on active duty, as part of a performance art piece called "The Fifth Commandment". Upon his discharge he joined the North Dakota Peace Coalition and testified in the North Dakota Senate and House of Representatives in support of North Dakota Senate Concurrent Resolution 4022, the Peace Resolution calling for an end to the war and a withdrawal of the troops. The bill passed and was adopted by the state.
Cameron now resides in Los Angeles and is an active member of the LA chapter of Iraq Veterans Against the War. In 2007 he walked across the U.S.-Mexican Border in New Mexico on a Peace pilgrimage with his Zen Buddhist teacher Claude AnShin Thomas. (AnShin is a Vietnam Veteran, Zen Buddhist Monk, and author of: "At Hell's Gates, A Soldiers Journey from War to Peace.") Some of Camerons letters from the war were featured in Frank Schaeffer's book "Voices from the Front". In 2007 he was also the keynote speaker for the North Dakota Peace Coalition's annual Peace Conference. Cameron is currently a Department Service Officer with the Disabled American Veterans in Los Angeles and sits on the Greater Los Angeles VA OEF/OIF Steering Committee. He also volunteers with the National Veterans Foundation.
